Instillinger for bruk av RW i forbindelse med firewalls.

Folks,

This is just a gentle reminder that Roger Wilco is particularly sensitive to firewalls, router misconfigurations and blocked ports.

Reports of voice problems (some parties on a channel not being able to hear others and vice versa) are on the increase again, and so I'd just like to remind everyone to check that their firewalls and routers know what needs to be done to make Roger Wilco work properly.

*** If you are using a Network Address Translation device or setup, remember to set up static port forwarding for the ports described to your RW system. Dynamic port forwarding won't work with Roger Wilco, nor (reportedly) does the port forwarding built into Windows Internet

Connection Sharing (ICS).

*** If you are a PILOT, make sure that ports 3782 and 3783, for both TCP and UDP, are open, and if necessary, forwarded to the PC running Roger Wilco.

*** If you are a CONTROLLER, make sure that ports 3290, 3782 and 3783 for both TCP and UDP are open, and if necessary, forwarded to the PC running ASRC if you have it, or Roger Wilco otherwise.

Even if you don't have ASRC yet, making sure that 3290 is open is "good practice" and will save lots of heartache, furrowed brows and newsgroup posts later!

Let me also make another point: It only takes ONE person in a channel with a misconfigured system (i.e. one that is blocking traffic to one of the ports mentioned above) to affect ALL the users in the channel -- even those who have their systems set up correctly. This makes it incredibly important, for everyone's sanity "", that everyone takes it upon themselves to check their system is doing the right thing. It's the same as the "push to talk" thing: one person with a hot mike makes the channel unusable; same with blocked ports.

End of public service broadcast. ""

Regards,
