Mange av dere har sikkert hørt om John Gillespie Magee som har skrevet dette diktet to uker før han døde i WW2 i sin Spitfire:

 

High Flight

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth

And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth

Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things you have not dreamed of -

Wheeled and soared and swung

High in the sunlit silence. Hovering there, I've chased the shouting wind along,

And flung my eager craft through footless halls of air

Up, up the long, delirious burning blue

I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace,

Where never lark, or even eagle flew; and, while with silent, lifting mind

I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space,

Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

 

 

Gutta på ENJJPT i Texas leser en god del "rules & regs" og har slevsagt "analysert" diktet på sin måte:

 

1. Surely bonds slipping is performed dual or PIT team only. This does not preclude solo students crabbing.

2. Dancing the skies on the wing will be performed dual-dual two ship only.

3. Aircraft cleared sunward will climb within the horizontal boundaries of their areas.

4. When joining the tumbling mirth, apply the techniques described in MCMAN 11-238 Rejoins (two ship).

5. T-38 aircraft may disregard using position lights when entering clouds forecast to be sun-split.

6. When wheeling and swinging are combined in one maneuver, T-38 aircraft are limited to +4.1 assymetrical G's.

7. High in the sunlit silence is defined as that airspace above FL290 from one hour before official sunrise to one hour after official sunset.

8. Chasing the shouting wind along is restricted to weather ships with DO approval.

9. Aircraft on exceptional release will be flown sub-sonic only.

10. Should either pilot experience delierium while in the burning blue, proceed with oxygen system emergency operation.

11. If windswept heights cannot be topped prior to reaching home, advice FWC prior to 30 DME.

12. When larks and eagles are flying, the SOF will ensure the proper bird status is announced on GUARD.

13. Nothing prevents VFR, civil or military aircraft from transiting the SAFB high untrespassed sanctity of space without permission from RAPCON.

14. Pilots will not sacrifice aircraft control or exceed canopy operating limitations to touch God's face.
