- «Hei Jack!» i cockpiten ble til «hijack» (kapring) i kontrolltårnet ved Detroit i delstaten Michigan. Dermed ble det full terroralarm.

På vei inn i flyet oppdaget passasjeren at annenflygeren var hans gode venn Jack, og hilste begeistret på ham.

– Hei, Jack, ropte passasjeren, og tilropet ble fanget opp av en mikrofon i cockpiten og formidlet videre til personalet i kontrolltårnet. De trodde det var noen som ropte «hijack» - «kapring» - og kastet seg over alarmtelefonene.
