...bortsett fra når man snakker om flyhastighet. Noen fartsmålere, f.eks. i litt eldre amerikanske fly, er kalibrert i MPH - Miles pr. Hour - og da er det Statute miles (amerikanske "landmil") det er snakk om. En slik en er omtrent 1.609m lang, så 100mph blir ca. 161km/t eller ca. 87 kts.
